Results on novel magnetic non-destructive testing method published by MTA-EK

The non-destructive characterization of the embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels is being performed on standardized Charpy specimens in an increasing degree. The novelty of the work described by the NOMAD partner MTA-EK in the open access article 'Magnetic nondestructive inspection of reactor steel cladded blocks', consists in the non-destructive characterization of degradation of RPV steels through the austenitic cladding. Cladded and non-cladded blocks cut out from a forged ring made from 15kH2NMFA steel and thermally treated afterwards have been investigated by means of a novel magnetic non-destructive testing (MAT) method.
